This is an extremely rare hand-painted background of the Turtle's lair in the sewer of New York.  The lair is is seen in nearly every episode.  Backgrounds are some of the rarest animation art.  Only one background is used for hundreds or (in this case) tens of thousands of cels.  The background was removed and retaped at the time of production.  This is not uncommon when the animators want to adjust the position on "screen." Measures approx. 10 7/8" x 13 3/8"
