Mary Faulconer (1911–2011) studied under Alexey Brodovitch at the Philadelphia Museum School of Art where she also taught in the Design Laboratory of the Museum School. She had, in addition, served as Art Director of Mademoiselle magazine and Harper’s Bazaar. Her freelance illustration work has appeared in Fortune, House and Garden, Life, Look, Seventeen, Town and Country, and Vogue magazines. She also designed the 1978 Rose Stamp for the United States Postal Service and did commission paintings for Steuben Glass and for UNICEF. Her work is in the private collections of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mellon, the Duchess of Windsor and Mr. and Mrs. John J. Whitney. She exhibited her work in galleries in New York City, HIlton Head South Carolina, and Nashville, Tennessee.
This serigraph, "Post and Thistle" is signed by Mary Faulconer and numbered 29 out of an AP (Artist's Proof) edition of 50. It is framed and matted and the overall size of the frame is 31 1/2" x 25". The print does appear to be heavily discolored. We'll include a Charles Scott Gallery Certificate of Authenticity.
