Matted and Ready to Frame, with a Charles Scott Gallery Letter of Authenticity

James Carter Beard (1837–1913) was an American illustrator, painter, and journalist renowned for his specialized depictions of wildlife, hunting scenes, and natural history. His works are held in major museum collections including the National Gallery of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the J. Paul Getty Museum.

This is a rare chance to own one of his original works. This painting is done with ink and watercolors on paper. It has been matted (via corner holders) to approximately 20" x 16". This work was likely published in a magazine or other printed material.

PROVENANCE: This was purchased from the BSA collection sale in 2025 to benefit the survivors of childhood sexual abuse within the BSA. In 2023 the Boy Scouts 321-piece art collection was transferred to a trust and auctioned off over several years. This piece is from that collection - a rare opportunity to own a piece with amazing provenance.
