GREASE
PRELIMINARY Original Production Animation Character/Model Drawing
from Ralph Bakshi

Comes with a Charles Scott Gallery Certificate of Authenticity!

Ralph Bakshi is famous for a huge animated feature career, from Lord of the Rings to Fritz the Cat to Cool World, he's often the director you didn't realize you've seen. Well, once upon a time, he was working on an animated feature of Grease. This was before the live action film and before Hey Good Lookin'.

Grease was originally made for the stage and was a bit darker - and Ralph Bakshi wanted to make it into a dark animated film. One of his ideas was to have the movie end with the suicide of Danny Zuko! But Bakshi didn't get the rights and the live action movie became a huge hit and Bakshi went on to make "Hey Good Lookin'" which sounds a lot like what we just described.

What we have here is what we believe to be some of the original preliminary model drawings of his characters for his adaptation of Grease. They are hand-drawn on standard 12-field animation paper (approx. 10.5" x 12.5") and are gorgeous.

Most of the cels and drawings from Hey Good Lookin have some amount of waviness to them, as do a few of these. Though the picture we have up exaggerates what the waviness looks like in person. Some production wear.
