Eyvind Earle (1916–2000) was an American artist, author and illustrator, noted for his contribution to the background illustration and styling of Disney's animated films in the 1950s. The Metropolitan Museum of Art,[2] New York, Rahr West Art Museum, Phoenix Art Museum and Arizona State University Art Museum have purchased Earle's works for their permanent collections. His works have also been shown in many one-man exhibitions throughout the world.
This is an exceedingly rare limited edition Christmas card serigraph entitled "Winter Woods." Sent by his estate during the holiday season, six months after his passing. Dedicated in his loving memory by his widow Joan, this vibrant serigraph card features artwork which was previously offered as a limited edition print in 1998.
Measures approximately 9.25" x 11.25". Has the edition number of 8/160 in the lower left as well as a stamped estate signature in the lower right. The front features gloss over the printed image area for a beautiful display, and the interior includes a simple and heartfelt printed greeting. The lot also includes the original mailing envelope post marked Dec 8, 2000.
This piece was displayed at the Walt Disney Family Museum in the 2017 exhibit Awakening Beauty: The Art of Eyvind Earle, a print is included for reference. With minimal handling and edge wear, overall this breathtaking Christmas card is in Very Good condition.
