Marc Davis (1913 - 2000) is legendary. He is one of the most renowned Disney animation artists of all time. Most Disney artists are also, of course skilled fine artists. What folks don't know is that Disney offered life drawing classes to their artists in 1932 and Davis, attended along with his fellow artists. Davis would later TEACH a life drawing class at Chouinard Art Institute for 17 years. He did many pieces about bullfighting over his career.
This 16'' x 11'' work on paper was included in the Marc Davis Fine Art portfolio with 32 fine art giclées made for galleries and museums. It was called "Death in the Arena" and was limited to 32 prints. This is the sought-after signed original that hung in Marc and Alice Davis's home for years (we are also selling the preliminary sketch). It is presented in a 23.5'' x 18'' glass frame and is signed and dated by the artist. NOTE: the frame front gold is scratched off on the right and should be repainted or replaced. Frame and plexi have scratches, etc.
This piece was originally priced at $14,000 when the artist had it for sale during his lifetime.
