Background Layout Model Copy
of The Bluff Edge!
from Hanna Barbera's Heidi's Song

from the animation artist's private collection! PLUS COA!

From the 1982 Hanna Barbera feature Heidi's Song and direct from artist/animator R. A. Smith's (Robert/Bob Smith's) personal collection. This is the copy he kept and used during the production of the film. We believe it is from the opening and closing! 32 years old! WE ONLY HAVE THIS ONE OF THIS IMAGE!

ROBERT (BOB) SMITH: We are VERY please to have made the acquaintance of the widow of Robert (Bob) Smith and worked with her to make some of Bob’s animation artwork available to collectors. Robert was not only an important animator but also a well-known fine artist as well. His work has been exhibited in major museums around the world including the Smithsonian and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, as well as being displayed in the White House under two Presidents. But he (like many other masters) is not as well known by the public for his contributions in the animation art world. Even though his work spans all the major studios and many of the greatest animated features of all time.

Robert worked at Hanna Barbera, Marvel, Jim Henson productions, Filmation, Disney and more. He worked on Sleeping Beauty, Oliver and Company, Rescuers Down Under, Heidi’s Son and The Lion King. In television, he worked on The Jetsons, the Muppet Babies, He-Man and the MOTU, The Transformers, My Little Pony, The Smurfs, Kwicky Koala and more. For a quick glance at his work, see his IMDB PAGE. We are enormously please to offer up this artwork directly from his private collection. It will come with a COA stating this and you will have a piece of animation history in your collection from a world-class master!

HEIDI’S SONG (1982): Based on the novel Heidi by Johanna Spyri. According to Leonard Maltin, “…Hanna and Barbera pointed to this production as their commitment to quality animation (in contrast to their Saturday Morning product)…” Of Mice and Magic, A History of American Animated Cartoons. And it shows. The detail of the artwork in this feature is amazing. Every cel and every character and background is reminiscent of the work of Disney as opposed to Hanna Barbera. The drawings and backgrounds in particular are even more detailed than the final cels.
