MASSIVE Pan Production Animation Background
of MORIA, the Balrog scene!
Ralph Bakshi, 1978
Comes with a Charles Scott Gallery COA!
A classic animated feature - and one of the FIRST incarnations of LOTR to be put on film. And this is an incredible piece. It is a production background - used under camera in the film of one of the most iconic scenes in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings: the scene where Gandalf fights the Balrog in Moria! This is a huge pan production background - which means it is particularly large because the camera "pans" across it as the character moves - in this case, the Balrog! We've shown 3 screen-captures from the movie above that show various moments in the scene where the Balrog is moving across the background. The background on camera is very zoomed in on the larger piece.
It measures approximately 29.5" x 13.75" overall. It is painted with acrylics on skimmed illustration board and has incredible detail - including some of the terrifying staircases of Moria. The background artists on the film included Mike Ploog, Marcia Adams, Barry Jackson, Edwin B. Hirth III, Carol Kieffer, John Vita and Richard Raynius, so this was painted by one of these artists. Condition is good with handling and edge wear and small edge tears.
We'll include a Charles Scott Gallery COA.
SHIPPING COST INCLUDES PRIORITY SHIPPING AND INSURANCE!
