His other subjects have included flowers isolated under bright lighting, precariously balanced houses made of cards, and stucco buildings. Although Paul never received any formal training, he made a living from his art for almost 60 years. While his early works reflected the influences of his friends in Montmartre, Vlaminck, Utrillo and Frank Will, he soon developed dynamic form of expressionism reflecting influences as varied as Toulouse-Lautrec, Van Gogh, Cézanne, Goya, Velázquez and El Greco. Unlike other expressionists of the time such as Soutine, Rouault and the German expressionists, Gen Paul's works are full of optimism – fueled by his passion for life and daily life and his desire to overcome his handicap. Due to the dynamism and motion inherent in his paintings, some consider Paul to be the first action painter, a precursor to the abstract expressionists of the 1950s. A great many of his works remain in private hands but a number of his important pieces can be found at museums in France and in other parts of Europe. In 1934, he was recognized for his contributions to France and was awarded the Legion of Honor.

For more amazing art, see our website at www.charlesscottgallery.com

charming-baker-lets-not-make-life-anymore-more-difficult-than-it-already-is-2013-signed-screenprint-on-paper-limited-edition-of-125-framed
Charming Baker Lets Not Make Life Anymore More Difficult Than It Already Is 2013 Signed Screenprint on Paper Limited Edition of 125

CHARMING BAKER
"Let's Not Make Life Anymore Difficult Than It Already Is" 1965
Limited Edition Screen Print in Colors on Paper with Buckshot Hole, Edition of 125

Signed by Charming Baker, #122/125

Comes with a Charles Scott Gallery Letter of Authenticity

Charming Baker is a contemporary British artist known primarily for his oil paintings. When I was a 14-year-old skateboarder, a friend played me “Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols,” and that moment marked a turning point for me. The Sex Pistols provided the adrenaline-inducing soundtrack for my rebellion. If the Sex Pistols provided the soundtrack, the artist behind their imagery, Jamie Reid, provided the visuals for the revolution. Jamie Reid did the iconic art for the Sex Pistols like the “God Save the Queen” sleeve, the “Pretty Vacant” sleeve, and the cover for the album “Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols.” Jamie deserves the majority of credit for the daring aesthetics of Punk Rock. If you’ve ever seen a photocopied, ransom note style, cut & paste punk graphic, then you’ve seen Jamie Reid’s influence. Jamie has been one of my biggest creative inspirations both visually and philosophically, because his work is bold, provocative, irreverent, and political. Jamie Reid also turned me on to Situationism, a movement dedicated to disrupting the conformist trance through pranks and spectacles. I’m honored that I have been able to work with Jamie on some collaborative images and to present a special collection through Obey Clothing in his honor, as well as two limited edition screen-prints. Jamie and I have mutual interest in shaking things up and addressing the problems of corruption, environmental destruction, and wealth inequality, so it is very energizing and meaningful to do a project with him. Here, I wanted to play with the way veiled women riding motorbikes might seem jarring from a Western perspective. The only props I gave them were some socks and heart-shaped sunglasses, just to have a bit of fun with the cliché of rock stars or bikers in leather jackets. There were four cinemas in my town when I was growing up in Morocco. I remember the movie posters they’d put in their windows. Aside from mixing elements of both Moroccan and pop culture references together in his art, Hajjaj is also known for subverting the Western viewer’s expectations as he deconstructs the “tourist gaze that fetishizes veiled women” and instead situates them in a purposefully jumbled, animated light. By refashioning the Westernized view of Orientalism, Hajjaj states that he wanted to illustrate the multidimensional facets of Moroccan society in his photograph. There were days when the smoke created day for night, post-apocalyptic views right out of a sci-fi Hollywood movie. The most obvious and undeniable culprit here is climate change, whose impacts are increasing at an exponential rate. The future has arrived. In an interview given in her last years, Dorothea Lange beckoned the next generation of photographers to document civilization’s advancing effects on California, framing it as the New California. Some light age toning with old mounting tape on the back top, crease in the lower margin (below the art), and 3 small edge tears - 2 on right and 1 on left - none of which impact the art. Also a slightly wavy bump in the upper right edge - again not affecting art. NOTE: Lastly, there are faint, vertical yellow lines on the right and left side front that are slightly into the art - they are more prominent in person than in the digital scan.

Measures approximately 12" x 19" - our picture does not show the height of the top or bottom margins.

animator-marc-davis-signed-original-gouache-painting-one-of-a-kind-from-one-of-disneys-nine-old-men-3
Animator Marc Davis SIGNED Original Gouache Painting One of a Kind From One of Disneys Nine Old Men 3

MARC DAVIS, Animator and one of Walt Disney's "Nine Old Men"

Original Gouache Painting on Paper, FROM HIS ESTATE, Dated 1942
SIGNED by Marc Davis

Comes with a Charles Scott Gallery Letter of Authenticity

Marc Davis (1913 - 2000) is legendary.
